William H. Poston Collection, 1908-1985

The William H. Poston Collection, 1908-1985, consists of one examination record, fourteen notebooks, one commencement invitation, one diploma, four photographed portraits, three obituaries, one typed letter and one illustration. This collection documents Poston's education at the Medical College of the State of South Carolina and his death in 1951. The fourteen notebooks in this collection are labeled and filled with handwritten notes taken by Poston while a student at the Medical College of the State of South Carolina. Topics covered include: practice clinic; nervous disease; eye, ear, nose and throat; diseases of children; anatomy; clinical surgery; hygiene; general pathology; dermatology, urinary diagnosis; bacteriology; obstetrics, and principles of medicine jurisprudence. Of the four photographed portraits in this collection, two are of Poston, one is of his Medical College of the State of South Carolina roommate, William Preston Dowling, and one is of Granville S. Hanes.

William Henry Poston MD, was born March 1, 1881 in Pamplico, SC, and died on November 6, 1950. He was married to Mary Dobson Poston with whom he had two children and three grandchildren. Poston graduated from the Medical College of the State of South Carolina in 1909 and received his license to practice that same year.
